It looks like the issue of BYD Auto being 'choked' by FinDreams Battery has been confirmed. On May 15, at the 2026 Yangwang Business Research Institute Thousand People Conference, BYD Group Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu stated that battery production capacity is currently tight, with several models including those under the Dynasty, Ocean, Denza, and Yangwang brands entering a ramp-up phase. He noted that as battery capacity gradually releases, BYD's monthly sales will trend upward.

Earlier, Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD's Dynasty Auto Network, had already announced that orders for the Tang DM had surpassed 100,000 units. He said that with a backlog of orders affected by battery capacity, customers may need to wait, adding that good things take time.

The General Manager of Denza also visited the production line multiple times to urge higher output. Production has been increased from 100 units per day to 260, but delivery speed remains insufficient, leading to apologies for the wait.

On May 13, at the launch of the Fangchengbao Bao 5 and Bao 8 Flash Charge versions, General Manager Xiong Tianbo again stated that due to battery capacity constraints, deliveries of the Flash Charge models are slow. He asked for patience, noting that efforts are underway to boost capacity.

BYD Vice President Li Ke also said in a public event that despite capacity challenges, BYD is actively expanding overseas markets to optimize production layout. She mentioned that BYD is negotiating with several European car manufacturers to take over underutilized local factories to increase capacity.

Additionally, some Song Ultra EV Flash Charge owners have complained to the car quality website because their waiting time exceeded one month. It's unusual to see complaints about delivery speed rather than quality, indicating significant order pressure for BYD.

Back in 2021-2022, BYD also faced capacity issues due to a sudden surge in orders, which was more severe. At that time, the bottleneck was vehicle production, with many customers waiting over three months. The author mentions ordering in March 2022 and receiving the car in September, a six-month wait.

All signs suggest that BYD Auto is currently being 'choked' by FinDreams Battery. Of course, this is said jokingly, as FinDreams is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BYD. FinDreams Battery is BYD Battery, and vice versa.

Currently, Flash Charge models include the Titan 7 EV, Song Ultra EV, Denza Z9 GT, Sealion 06, Sealion 07, Han EV Flash Charge, and Seal 07. Among them, the Song Ultra EV likely has the highest order volume, with over 37,000 units in the first week and cumulative orders conservatively exceeding 100,000 units. These models are equipped with the second-generation blade battery.

More Flash Charge models are expected to launch in May and June, such as the Tang EV, Denza N9 Flash Charge, Han EV Flash Charge, and Qin Max. This could exacerbate the shortage of second-generation blade batteries. The core reasons likely involve production line transformation, process redesign, and raw material shortages. The second-generation blade battery requires completely new processes and production lines, as it uses lithium iron manganese phosphate (LMFP) with silicon-carbon anodes, a 3.8V high-voltage platform, short blade cells, and CTB 2.0, which are incompatible with first-generation equipment.

To alleviate pressure, BYD has taken measures including: accelerating expansion (the Xi'an Xixian base is now operational with annual capacity of 16 GWh, with plans for new plants in Jinan and Nanning); upgrading older factories in Shenzhen and Xi'an; and offering compensation to customers, such as Denza's policy of two free maintenance sessions for waits over 30 days.

According to media estimates, FinDreams is currently modifying production lines while continuing production. The single-line modification cycle is about three months, with full completion expected by the end of June 2026. New lines are also ramping up in yield and efficiency.

Thus, the situation should improve after June, as second-generation blade battery capacity increases and waiting times shorten. Indeed, BYD's 2026 new car plan appears to have slowed the pace of launches. Models like the Tang, Han, Sealion 08, and Seal 08 have not yet officially launched, likely to avoid excessively long waiting times due to battery shortages.
